My One Word: Rest
Being too busy, worries about not being “good enough” at what I do, and an abiding low-level anxiety, have left me feeling exhausted. I feel tired most of the time, and I know that is because what I really need is true rest. Many years ago, at my Confirmation, my pastor gave me a verse that he had selected for me. It was Isaiah 30:15, “In repentance and rest shall be your salvation, in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” At the time, I was disappointed. It was different than the more well-known, “cool” verses that my peers received. But in the course of my life, it has been the verse that I have returned to time and time again, hearing the truth in it that I need in my life. I hope to learn more of “rest” in the context of this verse, as I live with that word this year.
