The seed was planted in my head for my word a coupe weeks before I heard about My One Word. The song “Speak Life” by TobyMac came on the radio and spoke to my heart. I realized that the things I say do one of two things: build others up, or tear them down. Then in my communications class, we were discussing how a person cannot develop a self-concept without interacting with other people. Meaning that people, especially children, decide who they are through the words that other people say to them. This compelled me to consider carefully the things that I say to people, especially the kids in my life. I often tend to have a negative attitude and allow myself to convey that through my speech. I need to try and remember that my words can either bring life, or spiritual death to the people that hear them. Then when I heard about the My One Word project, I knew almost immediately knew what my word was supposed to be, but I still wanted to pray about it for a while. Later that night, I was watching an online sermon from my church’s sermon series called, “The Culture of Can’t”. The pastor mentioned the My One Word project, and then followed with this quote, “To be fully alive is not simply to drink deeply of life and be satisfied, it is to become a well, offering life to the world around you. That is what it means to be fully alive.” (Jason Jaggard). To me, this seemed like what one of my good friends so eloquently describes as, a “God wink” ! I have been in prayer about my word, and have finally decided that without a shadow of a doubt, my one word for 2014 is life-giving. I want to become well spring of life, offering hope and LIFE to the people around me, through Jesus and through the words I speak. In Matthew 14, Jesus performs miracles by healing people through his touch. I want to heal people by letting the Holy Spirit speak through me, with words of encouragement! This is my goal for 2014! What is your one word?
