My One Word: Discipline
I find myself desperately lacking discipline in several areas in my life. There are many things I want to improve in, but if I don’t take the effort necessary, then I will never change to become the person God desires me to be.
Although discipline is wanted in other areas of my life, discipline is especially needed in my spiritual life. 1 Timothy 4:7-8 reads: “Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
The intent of being more focused on discipline is not to become legalistic in my thinking nor to become better than anyone else, but to move forward and not remain stuck in my past. I want to experience growth. If I don’t have direction to where I want to go and where God needs for me to be, discipline will become tedious and become drudgery. Therefore, discipline is what I want to pursue and pursue with my whole heart.
