My One Word: Shift
It was a toss up between “shift” and “slow.” In the end, “shift” satisfies the purpose of each word. “Shift” is about letting go of the constant negative, anxious, angry thoughts and exchanging them for thoughts that are full of peace, hope, trust and joy. It’s about shifting from despair to hope, from worry to prayer and thanksgiving, and from a fixation with earthly things to a preoccupation with heavenly things. But “shift” is also about abandoning hurry and learning to go slow. Dallas Willard once told John Ortberg to “ruthlessly eliminate hurry.” Hurry is the bane of my life with God and with others. So my desire is to shift my thoughts and shift the general posture of my life. My key verse is Prov. 4:23. “Keep your heart with all diligence for from it flow the springs of life.”
