My One Word: DISCIPLINE
I have been picking “themes” for each year since 2008, so I really like the idea of ‘My One Word’:
2008 – Year of Application
2009 – Year of Gaining Traction
2010 – Year of Producing Results
2011 – Year of Intelligent Growth
2012 – Year of Breakthrough
2013 – Year of Transformation
For 2014, I am picking the word DISCIPLINE. I feel that it will be the CATALYST for me to achieve all of my other goals and objectives in the upcoming year.
DISCIPLINE or SELF-CONTROL is also part of the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22), so we already HAVE it, but do we APPLY it ? It is possible to own something without actually using it …
As I reviewed and analyzed my achievements and failures in 2013, I realized again the importance of applying DISCIPLINE. We can have all the knowledge in the world, but unless we start APPLYING that knowledge on a CONSISTENT basis, it will be of no use. I once heard it being said that WISDOM is simply APPLIED KNOWLEDGE. So if we know what to do, but we don’t do it (or don’t do it consistently) then that is simply being foolish.
