after a year with the word UNTO ((Col. 3:23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as UNTO the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.))I did see my posture change to being more grateful, surrendered and steadfast also OK with the imperfect progress. But I was left repeatedly being shown my vision more often than not was “off” , un-hopeful and tended to be down right negative. Causing me to wonder about my change, my circumstances, others circumstances and how to get moving. I pondered my one word for 2013 longer than the 3 yrs past and first wrote down move, create (art), movement and momentum. (i wanted to just pick the fun one, create) But through prayer, the My One Word book study at small group, and the PC3 devos I began to realize there was more behind the words i had on my list about getting going, moving past things holding me back from creating, doing and changing. That was VISION, because as Pastor Mike has told us many times “what we see determines the direction we will go” For example My sweet little red headed, left handed, creative but often grumpy 5 yr old can sport a 15 yr old attitude with ease in the most mundane of situations and immediately I’m struck with negative thoughts and visions of our relationship down the road when she IS 15. My Vision has to change..and i couldn’t do that on my own. I started asking my self…
What is in my Vision, is it based on truth? where do I place my sight? what am i actively seeing that is affecting my perception, reactions, and response? Do I see hope?
I Need to fix my eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of my faith. and have hope that the work He has begun He will be faithful to complete. My one word Vision will remind me to realign and reassess what i “think” i’m seeing, perceiving or predicting in my circumstances to God’s Truth and my Hope in Jesus.
This will put me in position to increasingly act with right motive and momentum instead of being stagnant in my own cloudy Eeyore like outlook. I want more of God’s vision in my life. For Him to open my eyes to see His power and love working in, around and through me for the sake of the impact that can have on my family. Right after I chose my one word VISION I saw this quote in my twitter feed.
“My perception produces a painting of my life, using only the colors I supply. Today, I’ll give it the brighter palette.” -Nate Larkin ((the one painted with Truth and Hope in Jesus))
scripture I’ll be keeping in sight this year with my One word VISION…
Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Psalm 119:17-18
17 Be good to your servant while I live, that I may obey your word.
18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
Proverbs 4:25-26
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
2 Chronicles 20:17, “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.” (NIV)
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
