My One Word: Seek
Follow the leader.
Who ever wanted to be the follower? Didn’t everyone raise their hand, jump up and down and shout, “Pick me for the leader! Pick me!”?
Hide and seek.
Which would you rather do? Hide or seek?
This answer didn’t come so easily. In my home apparently we all want to hide. No one wants to be the seeker.
Childhood games. We’ve all played them. Perhaps we’ve even carried them over into adulthood. Perhaps there is significance in our choices.
I’ve spent the last week or so contemplating choosing a My One Word for 2014.
I really thought it had already been chosen, and started this post as such, but it has evolved a bit.
I am a control freak. I am a planner. I live by a calendar and routine. I find comfort in tradition and stability.
Perhaps that glimpse inside my head makes you uncomfortable. You may even cringe at some of my favorite words. It’s ok, my husband cringes and rolls his eyes.
I do not find comfort in the unknown. In loss of control. In letting go of even the idea of having control of any given situation.
I thought my word for 2014 would be FOLLOW. I wanted it to be FREEDOM. Instead, I believe I’ve been lead to SEEK.
My focus scripture for 2014 is going to be:
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
I’m going to follow by seeking Him. I have a feeling I’ll find quite a bit of freedom in the process.
I expect to find God, to hear from God. To be able to discern His will for my life as opposed to my want for my life.
I expect He will do much more work in me than I can even imagine if I will truly seek Him with my whole heart this year.
So, I’m choosing a word to focus on for the entire year. What about you? Are you focusing on a goal? Are you focusing on God?
I’d love to hear your word, your resolution, your goal, and I’d love for you to ask me how I’m doing staying focused on mine throughout the year!
As I set out to SEEK.
