My One Word Featured On K-Love

On Thursday, the Christian radio network K-Love highlighted My One Word on their radio broadcast and website. Excitement was buzzing through the air as staff members at PC3 huddled around laptops to listen to the live web stream.  The radio hosts did an amazing job articulating the heart behind the project. I have to be honest that at first it felt a bit odd hearing the radio hosts and listeners talk about what word they would use as a lens to shape their character in 2010.

Eventually it sunk in that people throughout the world have jumped aboard this movement to see how God works in our lives when we pursue His heart by focusing on a single word.  For our new fans and followers, we are honored that you are coming along on this journey of picking one word instead of having a New Years Resolution. We look forward to hearing how your word impacts you and those around you in 2010.

WECT also covered the story- check it out!

  2. Everything comes down to this one word… HOPE. If you had no hope you would quit trying, for you only continue to struggle through lifes trials because of the HOPE that things will change and life is good.

  3. Denise Fox says:

Hi Lisa. I wanted to share my word with you. It is RECOVERED. I was an alcoholic & drug addict for many yrs, I have been in recovery for 9 yrs and am so glad to walk with the Lord. I was never the type to talk about God, but Jesus got a hold of me & now I’m recovered.

    My one word? RESTORED

This past year has been a very long and hard battle. From not being able to find a job to support my boys and myself to my 9 year marriage ending in divorce after trying to keep it all together.

I knew God was humbling me after the trials and heartaches, and now I know why… God is wanting to RESTORE the FIRST LOVE between God and myself. With God answering so many prayers and finally getting a wonderful job. God is beginning to RESTORE me.

Plus, the first 4 letters in TESTIMONY is TEST!!! Without the TEST, you have no TESTIMONY.

  5. Carmen from Evans Mills, NY says:

I’ve been reading a book about Grace and that’s where my one letter word came from. This year my one letter word needs to be “surrender” because when you surrender yourself you unlock the door to Grace…

i have decided to join in on the one word move. my word is
love and ways to show it more to my family friends and anybody i come across in my daily life. i was actually reading joyce myers book love revolution when i heard that my radio station was doing this activity.
i decided to drive right in. i have limited resources and i live in a small community but i decided that when i go out my front door to ask god to put someone in my path that i can show love to by simplle acts like smiling and saying hello and asking how they are doing and actually listening to that person whether i know them or not. on purpose with a purpose. when i have found this person and greeted them and said hello i ask god for another one. my daughter and i try to walk in our neighborhood when the weather permits and god actually puts more than one person in my path. i have only been at this a few days. it feels good. i actually found myself standing in my church foyer this week greeting people and shaking hands and saying hello and asking how people were. something i had never done before without being forced into it. so funny i went into our large hall not many there i set my stuff done and went immediatly to the front doors. i didnt even really plan it it just happened. next thing you know im there greeting people. trying to do this on the phone is kinda hard. will try harder at that.

  7. Bonita says:

Peacefully-Content Not just content but at peace in the contentment. There are many things up in the air for our family right now and I feel so unsettled and I feel God is calling me to be peacefully content even when I do not know what will happen or where my job will go – should we move – the boys schooling. So that is my word for the year.

  8. Tom says:

REST is my one word. It was given to me in 1997. It has guided my daily walk ever since.
R – Be realistic but ready
E – Expect only the best Effort on your part in whatever I do.
S – Simplicity: Keep things simple.
T – Take Time for yourself and others during each day.

  9. Jenny Schultz says:

My one word is “Servant”. Not only do I want to be God’s servant I want to serve others as well. “in serving others, we serve God”. I love the simple children’s song “make me a servant” The words are so simple and yet so profound, “make me a servant humble and meek, Lord let me lift up those who are weak. And may the prayer of my heart always be, make me a servant, make me a servant, make me a servant, today. I want my life to be a life of service. I am a school nurse so part of that is easy, it’s being humble and meek that is the challenge!

  10. Kita says:

Hi Lisa and Eric — thank you so much for this challenge. As soon as I heard this word TRUTH immediately came to mind becuase I have not really been honest with myself. But the more I thought about it, I havent been honest with my self, because my walk with Jesus has been a very difficult one. So I came up with the perfect word for me! HALT! And it means Heven At Least Today! I will take this walk one day at a time, and perfect my walk with Christ each and every day. So HALT! is my one word.

  11. Karen says:

My word for this year is “Held”. That song by Natalie Grant spoke to me over the last year. Within one year’s time, I’ve lost my stepmother to brain cancer, dealt with my father’s diagnosis of colon cancer, and had to take a second job because my husband lost his. And we’re still struggling. But not one time did God let go of me. And not only that, but He actually took the time to show me that He still had me. So many times, when I thought I was going to lose it, He put someone in my path that revealed that love to me. And He’s giving me opportunities to let others know He’s holding them too.

  12. Sheila Leotta says:

My one word is “Beacon”. I figure that if I try to live so God’s love shines through me all time, I will be forced to change my habits and the way I act and think, and then hopefully people will notice and see God working through me….. Thanks for the challenge!

  13. Doris says:

My one word is a snigglet: V-action. That stands for Vision with Action. Prov. 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish . . . ” Many people also have vision, but unless you put action to implement that vision, it’s just a fantasy.

Sometimes that vision is so great that it may paralyze us. However, we ought never let what we think we can’t do keep us from doing what we can do. People who accomplished great things started being faithful in the small things.

Usually the conditions aren’t ideal to step into that vision, but no one said it would be that we. Putting action to a vision is faith at work. The Bible says that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. If God is in that vision, He will equip in His timing, but we need to take action.

  14. Marilyn Miller says:

My one word is DEVOTED. I want to be devoted to Christ, my family, my church family, my job and the world’s lost and hurting people.

  15. Heather says:

My one word is faith. My husband can’t be in our house right now because of child protective services. I don’t know when he is going to be allowed to come home. My kids and I want him home but the state won’t let him come home. I don’t know how long this is going to last. So that is why FAITH is my one word. My favorite song is What Faith Can Do by Kutless.

  16. Carolyn says:

LIGHT – We are the light of the world. Every day we should be salt and light to those around us, Believers or not. For by seeing the light in us others will notice and be drawn to Him.

  17. Heather says:

My one word is FAITH. I chose that word because my family and I are going through some hard times right now. So I know that I have to keep the faith that this will all work out in the end.

  18. Susan Smith says:

My one word is “strong”. For the last 3 years, I have drawn closer to God, trusting Him with everything. The more I seek Him and He reveals Himself, I see how it’s all about Him in all situations, and He is my strong foundation, my strength, my strong fortress! My verse this year from Eph. 6:10, “Be strong in the Lord anad in the strength of His might”. i have been faced with many challenges that if I had relied on my own strength it would have been so much harder and God wouldn’t have been glorified.

  19. Rachel says:

my one word is grateful – grateful for everything God has given me and also for the times that were rough that He has gotten me though and will continue

  20. Aaron and Helene Brockelbank says:

My wife and I after praying over this have come to our One Word. Our word for the year is Compassion. In our meditation over this word we believe that love is too broad but compassion is more resolute and specific. We pray that the compassion that Jesus shared and continues to share will reflect in our lives to bring others closer to Him.

  21. Jenny says:

My one word is RENEW. I have had trouble with certain sins in my past and I am looking to God this year to help me renew my life and the person I want to become.

  22. Sandy Beza says:

    Compassion
We need to be Compassionate to others like Christ is with us every second of our lives. We live because of His Compassion He has for us.

  23. angelia espinoza says:

    giver
god came to me through one of your songs and i was thinking about my word and it came to me as being more of a giver. so that is just what i will do. GIVE MORE

  24. Cory Ploch says:

    Endurance

God grant me the endurance stay strong and continue to guide my family towards you. Be an example for my son and a loving husband to my wife.

  25. Amber Dalton says:

STRENGTH. I want to find the strength to live for God and to show my love for Him no matter where I am, what the situation is, or if I will be persecuted for it.

  26. Joyce says:

I chose the word “reflection”…I want others to see Christ when they look at me. Including my husband.

  27. Melody says:

SELF CONTROL. I want self control to listen before I speak, self control to deny self to love others, self control to forgive others, self control to give and above all to put the Lord first in all areas of my life.

  28. Cori says:

I heard about this on KLove and am spreading the word …

  29. I decided that my word for the year would be SOAR.
I want to soar for the Lord in all I do,
I need to soar in His love every day,
and as I wait for the Lord I will soar on eagles wings.

  30. Wonna says:

My one word is “Go”! I want to go ahead with what God is calling me to do and Go forward in loving others and loving and obeying God.
    -W. Elviria

  31. BEV HUNDLEY says:

I WAS LISTENING TO YOUR SHOW THIS MORNING, WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THIS “ONE WORD.” I THOUGHT ABOUT IT FOR AWHILE, AND REALLY THOUGHT MY WORD WOULD BE FORGIVENESS. BUT I HAVE TO TELL YOU, AS I LISTENED , I CONTINUED TO PONDER WORDS. THEN, YOU PLAYED THE SONG “LEGACY.” THIS WORD IS PERFECT FOR ME. THE ONLY THING WE CAN TAKE WITH US TO HEAVEN IS PEOPLE. OUR CHILDREN AND OTHERS WE WITNESS TOO ABOUT GOD’S LOVE. WHEN I LEAVE THIS WORLD, AND ENTER ETERNITY, I HOPE MY LEGACY WILL BE SIMPLY THAT I LIVED MY LIFE FOR CHRIST , AND THAT I TRIED TO BE A WITNESS AND SHARE GOD’S LOVE WITH OTHERS. I HOPE MY CHILDREN WILL KNOW THAT THIS WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO THEIR MOTHER. WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE LEGACY WE LEAVE?

  32. Kris says:

My one word would be “lifesong”. The life of every single one of us is made up of ‘songs’ that our everyday actions ‘sing’. When we leave this world, it’s our ‘lifesong’ or the song that our life sang that people will remember. And I want mine life to sing of the love of my Daddy God and have it reflected in everything I do, everything I say…in everything. I want my song to be one of surrender to His will.

  33. Tricia says:

SERENE! Amazingly, I get to practice this even now as my 2-yr-old has walked downstairs with my makeup and lipstick all over his face. Well, praise God for the opportunities! 🙂

  34. Stephanie says:

BEHOLDEN! I am beholden to Christ. I will continue to live my life and be true to His word. I will strive to be my very best for Almighty God and through Him I will then in turn be able to be my best for my family and friends. I will not allow for my emotions to overcome me. With the knowledge and wisdom from the heavens above I can make changes that will ensure great victory in my life. I will forever be beholden to my Lord and Savior, for there is not enough good deeds I could possibly do to make me worthy. It is by grace that I am saved and His unconditional love that surpasses any other. Thank you Father for all Your blessings!

  35. Kim says:

BELIEVE! That is what I base all my decisions on. Belief that God will steer me in the direction I am supposed to go.

  36. Adria says:

My word is KNOW… just Be Still and KNOW… When it seems to be out of control, KNOW that God is in control… when it seems you cannot take another breath, KNOW that God breathes through you- for you. Just KNOW… be still and KNOW

  37. Jo Ellen Elixson says:

I was listening to K-Love on the day they started talking about Port City Community Church’s one word campaign which has been active for three years. I listen to K-Love almost every day and I was so impressed to see how many people were moved by the “one-word” idea and I just want to welcome each and every person out of the Wilmington area who has felt God’s calling to join the movement. I would love to see the whole world join in. Perhaps then we would really see a change in the love shared by people of all races, creeds, circumstances – knowing that every person alive is a child of God. And I’m going to put in a word for K-Love. They are commercial free, depending only on contributions from their listeners. I am proud to be a supporter and would invite others to support such a God oriented station whose purpose is to uplift it’s listeners and invite them to love a God so wonderful and powerful. If you’ve never listened, please do so. The DJ’s are happy, energetic people who make you just want to be around them. No doom and gloom, just glorious music to uplift.

  38. Meg says:

I have desperately needed routine, desperately needed to draw closer to God. The important thing is to give God the opportunity to draw close to me. My friend Andy Pisciotti says in his own blog post that letting God work through you

“removes all responsibility and temptation to take credit for his work, makes my motivations pure, and brings all of the glory directly to Himexactly where it belongs. Dont make the mistake of doing things for God without allowing Him to do things through you. As if God actually needed our work”

I bought my first-ever study Bible (it’s a NIV Quest, if you’re interested in knowing). I think this will help me tremendously as I dig deeper into God’s word.
